Community & Economic Development

Culturingua’s Community and Economic Development Program fosters an inclusive, thriving community in San Antonio’s Medical Center, prioritizing cultural preservation and sustainable growth. It empowers local residents and businesses by advocating for heritage recognition, enhancing public spaces, and preventing displacement. The program also supports immigrants and refugees in leveraging their skills through credential assistance, workforce training, and free, multilingual food handling certification courses. As an accredited Food Handling Certification provider y the State of Texa, Department of Health and Human Services, Culturingua has empowered hundreds to succeed professionally and contribute to their communities, building generational wealth and a sense of belonging. Through our program, we empower the community to share their stories with oral histories, amplify their voices, and actively participate in citywide events that celebrate our shared heritage.

Culturingua’s arts and placemaking initiatives celebrate the rich heritage of San Antonio’s immigrant communities through projects like advocating for the Medical Center area to be designated as the Silk Road Corridor. The annual Welcome Walk and Festival fosters connection and cultural pride, while art displays highlight diverse traditions and histories. These efforts create vibrant public spaces that honor cultural heritage, promote inclusivity, and strengthen community identity.

Culturingua’s Small Business Support Program empowers immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs by providing tailored resources, mentorship, and culturally responsive training. We focus on fostering economic inclusion, helping small business owners navigate challenges, and connecting them to community networks. Through initiatives like the Culturingua Entrepreneur Network, we create opportunities for sustainable growth while preserving cultural heritage, ensuring that businesses thrive and contribute to the vibrancy of San Antonio’s economy.

Culturingua’s Community Land Trust initiative aims to prevent displacement and foster equity by securing land for affordable housing, community spaces, and cultural preservation. By prioritizing the needs of immigrant and refugee communities, this effort promotes long-term stability, economic inclusion, and shared ownership, ensuring that residents can thrive while retaining the unique character and heritage of their neighborhoods.
